  1. Integrate with Google Voice

Google Voice is finally getting some love and so I'd like to use Google Voice in Franz.

    • Is there any way in which to disable the rule that parent birth year cannot predate offspring birth year?

I have snp data collected from non-invasive samples for a population with overlapping generations, I'd like to use sample collection date combined with lifespan to eliminate relationships where individuals could not be contemporaries, but do not wish this data to add directionality to P-O relationships as it's not a true birth year just a possible range and Offspring sample collection date may predate Parent sample collection date. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
      Kind regards,
      Franziska

      • Error: Sex must be M, F or ?

Hi, I'm trying to run FRANz on my own data for the first time and I'm getting the following error message: "Error: [while parsing file WPPfranzIn.txt, line 4] INFILE; sex must be M, F or ?". I had a close look at my infile and the 5th column does indeed only contain the characters M, F or ?. Any idea what might be causing the error? Here are the first 15 columns of the first 30 lines of my file:
        1 16397 / WestPencilPine
        443 WPP
        P29A06-Y06 1 2006 ? ? 4/4 2/2 2/2 2/2 2/2
        P29A07-Y06 1 2006 ? ?…

        • How can we best address unknown dates of death? And birth dates vs. conception dates?

Thank you so much for creating this program! We are using it to try to follow disease susceptibility in a wild population, it has been very helpful.

We are in the second year of our project, and here is what we are faced with:

Fathers may have died at some point between 03/2016 and 03/2017, all we know is that we sampled them last year and this year they were not present. Breeding season is in September-November, so there is a chance they were alive to breed.

Offspring are born in June, so we potentially have 2017 offspring who were…

          • Sibship clustering?

Thank you very much for making this program available.

Could you please clarify whether clustering of full siblings is only performed to assist in parentage assignment? As it is not entirely clear to me what is meant with "If fullsib inference is
your main interest, then you have to set reasonable parameters manually" on page 10 of the user manual. I do realise that the output file `Siblings.txt' contains the likelihoods to be PO, FS or HS, but it is not obvious to me whether there is any inbuild option to also output a pedigree with `dummy parents', similar to…

            • Creating a pedigree file

Hi, I am trying to reconstruct the pedigree in the cacao tree, with 4600 SNPs and 474 genotyped individulas, from different generations (Founders, up to third generation). I know all the pedigrees, but my plan is deleting some and observe how close, FRANz will be from the true pedigree. I should point out that, I have no experience with FRANz, but I am able to run it with a sample of my data. Now I want to include the pedigree information and have some questions:
              1. Despite I know the whole pedigree, I genotyped mainly the founders and thrid generation…

                        • Cannot open input file

                          Hi,
This might be a stupid question, but where should the input file be for the program to work? I've copied the example file 'simpsons.dat' into the folder where FRANz.exe is located. But when I follow the instructions in the manual to run the program, I only get a 'cannot open input file' message...

                          Any advice?

                          Kind regards
                          Willem

                          • SNP Data

                            Hello,

Might be a silly question, but I am trying to reconstruct a pedigree for a single population of ~100 plants, with 3000-5000 SNPs. I have to convert the A/C/T/G into numerical 1/2/3/4 data for FRANz, but is there specific requirement for this conversion?

I tried with the above conversion (and default setting as a test) and all loci (in a 3164 snp data set) were determined to be "uninformative" (and yes, I generated a csv file and used the online converter). I have a hard time believing that all the loci are uninformative and am wondering if how I…
